I used an Actex study guide for Exam P and I thought some of the problems were too tedious for Exam P. I used the ASM study guide for Exam FM and I am very confident I passed. Regardless, every problem in the ASM manual seemed like a problem that could appear on the exam. Personally, I liked the ASM problem sets for Exam FM better than Actex's problem sets for Exam P. The ASM Exam MLC study manual will not be released until June 6, 2008 and I will have to miss 7 study days. The Actex Exam MLC study manual is now available.

What's the best study guide to buy for SOA Exam MLC? I have both the ASM and Actex manuals for MLC and I think Actex is more to the point and can get you through the material quicker whereas ASM is more thorough but takes a little longer. I'd say ASM all the way, but Actex can get you through if that's what you can get your hands on. Actex only gives old test problems from 2000 and up whereas ASM has more problems but they go back to the 80's, and most of the pre-1998 questions seem outdated.

Also, ASM gives the breakdown of how many questions came from which topics on each test from 2000-07. All in all, I'd recommend both if you have the chang chang, but if not, go for ASM. Actex has awesome P and FM manuals, but completely different authors for MLC.
