I JUST STARTED IN THE LANDSCAPE BUSINESS AFTER BEING IN THE SNOWPLOWING BUSINESS FOR A LONG TIME. I JUST BOUGHT A USED 48' RANSOME BOBCAT WITH A 12.5 KAWASAKI. THIS UNIT IS AT LEAST 10 YEARS OLD. THE MOTOR STARTS RIGHT UP AND RUNS STRONG.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE MODEL NUMBER. I AM LOOKING FOR A REPAIR MANUAL WITH DIAGRAMS AND PART NUMBERS. THE DRIVE LINKAGE IS MISSING AN SO THE MOWER ONLY GOES AT ONE SPEED. THE PREVIOUS OWNER ADJUSTED THE DRIVE SPEED BY VARYING BELT LENGTH, HOWEVER IT IS FAST AND CAN ONLY BE SLOWED BY REDUCING THE THROTLE WHICH ALSO REDUCES BLADE SPEED. ALSO DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO GET A GRASS GOBBLER CHEAP. WHAT TYPE OF BLADES DO YOU EXPERIENCED LAND SCRAPERS RECOMMEND.:blob1. I took the unit to a local guy who advertises bobcats to find out he is not a bobcat dealer.
The guy didnt seem to want to tell me anything about my unit except that he reccomends I do not make the repairs but leave it for his techs to service. I guess I look like I was born yesterday.
All I want is to find a service manual for this machine. Can somebody please help.

I looked very carefully around the engine and gearbox for a model number but could find none. This machine has been painted at least three times so if there was a plate it's probably long gone. To heybruck, thanks your site gave me alot of help.
There are still things i am looking for like the deck cover and throtle mounting plate, but what you gave me is a great start. To general grounds i am looking for a manual for the machine itself. The 5 speed is not working and the previous owner adjusted the speed by varying the belt length. From what i see underneath there is a belt with a spring that is supposed to connect, through linkage to a five position 'shift lever'.
I want to repair this to be able to adjust the speed on the fly without cutting back the throtle. Does anyone know if these older bobcats have a reverse gear?
If you guys are thinking that it sounds like i am going through alot of work, consider i only paid two hundred for the unit. Yes bobcats do have a reverse gear (doesn't work too well, usually the pullys just spin) the tranny is probally a peerless (basicly the same tranny on all belt-drive mowers), The sping loaded pully should be for the parking brake, there should be a lever coming off the top of the gearbox.
I don't know how easy it is to find a manual seeing as bobcat mowers are made by Textron now. If your wondering why I know so much about these mower, the company I work for runs three of them the oldest is 9 years and the youngest is 6 years. I've spent 5 years off and on running them without any major problems that couldn't be blamed on carelessness. Good luck with yours it should serve you well and you goy a great deal.
