1971 Honda Cb350 Service Manual

I have a 1971 Honda CB350 twin I have spark on both sides but the left side has weak spark and won't fire I've checked the points and they seem to be working correctly. What should I check next? I'm new to working on motorcycles and just happened to come across the bike by accident. I actually found the bike abandoned in my uncle woods it looks like it had been sitting in a basement or a barn for a while before it was dumped. I got the carburetors working properly. It doses run but only the right cylinder is firing properly. I checked for a spark in the left cylinder and it does have spark but it's weak at best, the left cylinder does fire from time to time but not properly.

As I mentioned before I've looked a the points and they seem to be working properly but I'm not sure what the proper gap spacing is so if someone can tell me that would be one thing I can check. My next step is to go through the wiring system and clean and put die-electric grease on all the connections.

I was also wondering if it could be a problem with the solenoid coils or dirty connections, any advice on the situation would be greatly appreciated. Hi, Mrwarbur and the usual suspects are: 1.

Fouled spark plugs. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper 'LOAD' test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at 'BOTH' ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, 'INSIDE' and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.

Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting/leaking, spark plug cable connections loose check for spark leakage in the dark. Faulty ignition coil or electronic control module. Faulty pulse coil. Faulty CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor. Faulty ignition switch. Faulty run/off switch 11.

You will want to loosen all your cable adjustments first so you have the adjustments later when you need them again.

If this does not work, take the cover off and inspect the pieces for damage, missing bearings, cracked parts, bent shaft, etc. If you pull the shaft out of the motor be careful there is a small bearing that will usually fall out of the motor after you have left the room if the bike is on its side stand.
